Title: G40 at Harewood
Post by: spike on May 23, 2009, 06:38:41 PM
I was at Harewood hillclimb the other week and saw a very fast G40 beating the Peugeots!! I was told it is an ex Polo Cup race car. What is/was the Polo cup? Does anyone know the spec of this car?
It was truelly awesome to watch!

Thanks for that. I read the G40 Cup article. In there it says the cars were virtually standard apart from safety equipment, I don't think this car is standard! Maybe it competed in the Super Coupe Cup before being turned into a hillclimb car?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Is it white? There was one pictures on club polo ages ago that looked a right monster. Was probably that one. Is there an events list of what goes off at Harewood somewhere?

yeah that's the one I was thinking of, I've seen it around.  No idea of the engine spec though.

It's got plenty of power but it also goes round corners like it's on rails!! What mods do you have to do to make a G40 handle properly on 15s?
Do you have to mod the bodywork when you lower it that much and use 15 inch wheels?

I would say that's had some fairly extensive arch work done to make those g60 arches fit as the polo arches are normally a fair bit smaller.  As for handling, subframe, diff, decent suspension & lots of lightness.  I have 15" compos on mine too and with that spec.

That car has been around for quite some time and is well known, doubt if it's an ex Cup car as it has a registration number (unless it has been re shelled) all the original Cup cars were never registered and built from pre production cars.

Hayesey,
When you say subframe what do you mean? Do you have to fit a different one? Or mod the standard one?

G40's don't have subframes as standard.

fit one, there isn't one as standard.  Have a look in the Polo Peformance Parts section on this forum.
