Title: Belts slipping!
Post by: Justin14100 on May 06, 2009, 04:36:05 PM
I know my belts are slipping a lot! So much so the squeel at 4k rpm and up, like a fan belt squeel!
Question is how much boost am I loosing you think, and are they slipping at lower rpm too? (I don't know much about belt slip!)
Working on getting some toothies, how much difference will these make?

you wont get any slip with toothies.  Tighten your belts to reduce the squeel - and get some sticky belt dressing from a motorfactors.

for a more instant fit check the belt tension, they need to be pretty bloody tight.  Also just replace them with standard ones from VW if they are worn out (shiney and/or cracked).

Well the problem is they are too big, had 1005mm on it now 1013! Don't know how to tension and I'm not buying new belts until I get the toothies, will I be loosing power all around the rev range or only in the squeel area? Stupid halfords not having the right size!!

you dont know how to tension them?

No idea on what boost you are losing, how longs a piece of string

fit correct belts, only £17 or so from vw

oh and dont go to halfords, ever.

remove t-peice bolts to the exhaust manifold (if fitted) (13mm head)
undo top allen bolt (10mm head)

undo side bolt - 19mm head

fit a breaker bar in the square socket on the charger mounting bracket

press towards the car
tighten 19mm head bolt
tighten 10mm allen bolt

jobs a gooden
