how much do eaton chargers cost? and whats involed in fitting them? is there more power to be gained from them rather than the g lader?
If you are also a member of clubpolo.co.uk talk to a fella called vwmk3jon. He can tell you all the trials and tribulations of his set up lol. Was thinking of doing it myself but decided not too as it costs alot of money, time and knowledge, and having close to 200bhp out of a little car like that will be even more frightening. Depending on your setup you can get quite a bit of power out of them anyway.
I'm everywhere i'll have you know! lol.
Eaton chargers are available off ebay (roughly £150-300). You really want the 5th generation eaton charger with teflon coated blades. PSD used to sell a modified eaton charger before they closed but only 5 known kits were made ( i have one :-)). AW tracksport do a kit also but there have been problems with charger mounts and tensioning the charger belt (PSD chargers had 2 tensioners to eliminate this). My charger bracket has had to be machined slightly to get the charger to sit straight and move it away from the exhaust manifold.
Fitting them utilises the G-lader mounting and i'm running toothed pulleys to eliminate any belt slippage. You'd also benefit from a larger map sensor for higher boost levels. PhilJ has fitted my kit so any technical questions should be fired his way!
A G-lader needs rebuilding every 15-30k miles, depending on pulley size, useage etc whereas the eaton charger doesn't, having a shelf life of 100k or so. Theres afew instances of people running 200bhp+ on eaton chargers.

Is the life of 100k for chargers running a standard size pulley, like on a mini ?
If you have a small pulley and drive it hard, I'm not sure it would last long before something like an oil seal or bearing goes.
vwmk3jon do you run an uprated map sensor in your ecu?? i have one but have not had it fitted yet as i cant seem to find anyone to do me a chip to get the car back up and running on the bigger map sensor.
steven
Yup, should be having a larger map sensor fitted very shortly. Phil found someone to do mine but ideally, you'd want to give it to an auto electrician. I'm not sure where the chip came from that we're using. Have you tried G-werks?
no i aint tried them yet but i will do.
steven
If you have no luck, let me know and i;ll try and find out where mine came from.
if you could find ouy that would be fantastic mate
