Hi there,
I need to torque the camshaft...how much torque you think I should use?
Is there a way to do it right without a torque wrench?
G-reets,
Bruno
the torque setting is 59lb/ft (80Nm). I don't see how you can do it without a torque wrench.
Sorry I think I didn't explained myself correctly ;D It's the nuts that bolt the camshaft in place, 10 nuts I think!
Thanks
oh sorry. they are 4lb/ft plus 90deg turn. I know this off by heart because I did mine recently!
I don't have a torque wrench that goes that low either, I used a small 1/4" drive ratchet and nipped them up with one hand. It's a guess, 4lb/ft is a very low torque although the +90deg makes them a bit tighter than that.

That's right I don't have one either and for some reason they're expensive! Well I did like you but I used a 1/2" drive ratched (don't have a 1/4" one) with a small extension and torqued it with one hand as tight as I coud and then only gave it plus 45deg turn. Do you think I should give the remaining 45deg turn?
Cheers,
Bruno
i invested in a 1/4" torque wrench, was about £20 on ebay!
if youdid it as tight as possible with a 1/2" drive ratchet then it's probably too tight. They really aren't very tight. It's just occurred to me that you can probably get it right by using plastigage to measure the clearance between bearing cap and the shaft journal. But to be honest I think nipping it up with a 1/4" drive is ok.
It was as tight as I could but with one hand really, I handle it like a screwdriver and used the same kind of force. I was tightening and suddenly stoped because I couldn't continue anymore. Did like that to all nuts and then used the other hand with a ratchet and applied the 45deg turn.
What do you mean with "nipping"? It's like a gentle apperture?

ah right so you didn't have the actual ratchet attached at the time then, just the socket and bar.
Yes when I say nipping something up it just means tightening something but not much. Not sure if that makes sense, haha

Yes just socket and bar, full tight by hand plus a 45deg turn. That's what I've done. Should I turn it another 45deg?

Yes makes perfect sense to me. I had the impression it was something like that.
