Title: Car idling too high
Post by: josé on April 22, 2009, 06:15:46 PM
Hi everyone, ive just changed the cambelt on my car, before i did this it was ticking over nicely just below 1K now it settles around the 1250 mark,

My first idea is that one of the pulleys may have slipped round a tooth advancing/retarding the timing whichever it maybe,

but i don't know which way to turn the cam pulley in order to achieve the right idle speed

Any help would be great

cheers josh

When you change the cambelt the timing will be affected anyway - you can only get to the nearest tooth for alignment and the old belt will be stretched relative to the new one. Check the timing marks on the pulleys to make sure alignment is OK. If it's been put on properly then just retime by rotating the dizzy.

they look as near as i can see but the bottom timing mark on the cambelt case has been worn badly by the previous v-belts on the right hand side so i'm abit sceptical as to where i line it up to

Do you have any pics of how it's set up?

Try loosening the screw that sets the idle!
