Title: Charged Air Feed Hoses.... (How hot is charged air?)
Post by: NealPeal on April 14, 2009, 05:19:25 PM
Looking at the inside of the replaced rubber hoses I, the outlet from the charger is a little burned on the inside of the pipe.
Anyone recomend a (cheaper than VAG) charger to cooler hose that will withstand it better. The current one is not very flexible, but holds the cooler in place very well so will do again...

So on that thought, what temperature does it need to stand...
If my understanding of physics is to be believed (I dont nescessarily),
there is 1 bar pressure at sea level. So a bar of boost would give
twice the heat in the same area, so twice the kelvin? Am I right.
This would make it about 200 odd degrees in the pipe...

Regards
Neal

I can confirm your physics is correct (pressure x volume divided by temperature = constant) volume is unchanged so twice the pressure doubles your temperature.  :o
As for your query about the actual temps involved.... Anybody?  ??? I'd be interested to know as well...

Would you not be looking at twice the intake temperature then, not hot enough to burn anything surely? As for the pipe,I'm using a piece from my local truck supplier at £12 a metre. No problems. Needed something slightly longer to accomodate toothed belt set-up.The standard pipe's there if you would feel better with OE.

Unfortunetley it's not adiabatic compression! You're not compressing the air in a 100% efficient manner- turbos generally run a compressor outlet temperature of 115'C or below, A supercharger such as the G-Lader you're probably looking around 50-60'C including the radiated heat from the exhaust manifold.

I'd be surprised if you'd burnt a pipe, you sure it's not perished?

Because it's was solid rubber pipe i used rather than the ripped to bits original, costly to replace bendable one, it could be a stress wound.. It's was only the charger outlet pipe that looked bad so it is probably the shaking that caused it...
Many thanks

I agree, but in kelvin...
I don't know how much boost my stock, 12 year old chargerer would give out, or even a new one.
Anyone know?

on a standard pulley it should be about 0.6-0.7bar.
