well the chrgers off next week for a rebuild so whilst its in bits i thought id sort a weeping waterpipe..the little bastard at the back of the block.. now mines a bolt on one and im gonna remove the inlet manifold and rail etc to get to it and ive got a new gasket from vag for it...my question is...should i or is it safe to use some sealant with the gasket rather than the gasketon its own? I cant be on with it leaking again after its all back up and running. its a job ive been meaning to do for ages!
use gasket sealant mate, the paper gaskets are crap, i ditched the paper gasket and used sealant by itself.
cheers mate! id feel better putting a gasket in there lol so will i be ok using both?
remember its a mk2 gasket!!
I agree with robin, some sealant does a better job than the paper gasket does. Make sure you get both surfaces properly clean with a blade and scrape off all the old hard gasket.
yes because they are different shape.
to what? its the right shape for my waterpipe? ha ha
i know there are two types...push fit ones and bolt on ones but mines a bolt on one... thats the early one isnt it.
mines a bolt on one and i couldn't find a gasket for it, do a search as i did a thread about this a while ago.
well ive got two gaskets from the dealers..they are a fanny on to get cos of them being the mk2 ones...they only about 80p each, hence buying two. theyre just thin ?2mm card? youve got to go through your reg number etc to get the part number through the dealers.
Yeah it is from a mk2 on etka. When I did mine I cleaned it all up and just put the gasket on. Lasted the couple of years I had the car no bother.
etka for mk3s just shows rubber seals - as technically a g40 lump was left over mk2s from the mk2 g40 run i think
