Title: Turbo timer on a G40 - worth it?
Post by: vwmk3jon on April 02, 2009, 03:54:33 PM
Seen one on a Starlet turbo thingy before which got me thinking, would it be worth fitting one to the G ? Would stop me turning the engine off before its had chance to cool and whatnot.

Comments?

it's to allow the turbo time to cool off by keeping the oil circulating through it (and water if a water cooled turbo) so it doesn't suffer from heat soak.  Not as important with the supercharger but it's still good practice to let it idle for a short time after driving, especially after a good ragging session.

I would say its only worth getting a turbo timer if your G is your daily. If you use it for going to and from work, going to the shops etc then it saves you having to let the car idle for a few mins like you should.

If you use your G as a secnd car to enjoy then i would just let run for a few mins before turning it off cheaper and less to go wrong as well...

I'd agree with the above.

but also jon if you are using an eaton then a turbo timer would be pretty much a complete waste of time as they have their own sealed oil bath so no engine oil circulates it anyway.
