Title: Is cleaning the throttle body on a G beneficial??
Post by: G40Valverpaul on March 24, 2009, 06:00:50 PM
And is it the same as any other throttle body?? I did it on my old Mk3 16v as it was sticking slightly and sorted it.
Just wondered if its the same procedure and easy enough to do on the G!! ;)

can't do any harm, although you might find ouy need to adjust the idle screw afterwards.  The management is a fair bit simpler than on an ABF so there's no re-alignment involved.

Yeah Paul, if the throttle body is very dirty then it'll be worth cleaning. Lots of oil contamination in the throttle body and boost pipe could be the charger seals letting by, worth looking for.
Otherwise, I'd just do a physical check that the throttle is opening and closing smoothly. Check that the boost bypass valve is fully closing on wide open throttle and obviously open on a closed throttle too.

use carb spray to clean it. also worthwhile taking out the intercooler and cleaning it with carb spray.

I just cleaned the complete inlet starting at the airfilter (except the charger) intercooler, pipes untill the throttlebody, it starts up much quicker but still have my Co2 emission problem.

Be very careful when using carb cleaner with an Eaton! It is known to destroy the coating of the fins! Never spray any in the charger!

you wouldnt want to go anywhere near any charger with carb cleaner, can't imagine it'd do the apex seals of a g-lader much good if you sprayed it in there.

Yeah! carb cleaner melts certain plastics as well so be wary of the intercooler plastic ends.
Not all carb cleaner does this but then isn`t usually as effective cleaner.
