Title: g40 racing engine specs

hey guys,

i'm doin a little project where i'm redesigning the g40 conrod. i want to base the application for the new conrod on the g40 cup cars. i need to know a few engine specs on on the cup cars if you guys could help.
the main things i'm lookin for are max rpm & compression ratio (don't know if the race cars were allowed to run superchargers?) any other info on engine specs would be great.

cup cars ran standard engines.  Just a few bits like windage trays.  They would definitely use standard conrods.  Of course they ran superchargers because that's what a g40 is.

The idea of the cup cars is that they are supposed to be pretty much standard.

Surviving ones will have been modified since but I've not heard of anyone using different conrods as the standard ones are pretty strong and seem to stand up to lots and lots of boost.  People with g60 chargers and turbos etc put 22 or more psi into them without bending rods.

Did the cup cars have any head work?

Nah, no head work.
As far as I'm aware, the Cup engines were basically completely standard G40 engines. There isn't really any such thing as a "Cup spec" engine. No fancy forged pistons, different cam, big valves or porting. Just the previously mentioned windage tray, plus an oil cooler and a smaller supercharger pulley.

Haha, although 'standard' they are far from what they appear...

As usual in motorsport no one plays by the rules, reground stock camshafts retain VAG part #, the supercharger pulley had to be stock, que a larger crank pulley  ;) Regs stated deck height from the water pump mounting holes... quick weld, machine and deck you've got yourself a decked block with stock clearance where it matters.

I've also heard of aquamist systems inside washer tanks with piping routed inside boost pipes... how much I believe I don't know.

There's also the obvious re-map on a switch, something which VW Racing (superchips) still do today.... all above board, honest.

There are many more to add to this list ,  the amount of "mods" I found while dissasembling cup cars is amazing. Things you'd never ever think of doing!
