Title: Wipers constantly on !
Post by: Dan on February 11, 2009, 07:25:41 PM
I came back after a weeks holiday and found the wipers are constantly on my GT. I assume there is some moisture or dirt making a contact in the stalk switch. If I put it on constant it stays on constant, put it on intermittent and it stays on constant, but put it on very fast it goes very fast. otherwise it stays on constant in the off position.

Anyone else had this problem ? ???

The technical term for this is " functioning in a non-operational mode". Suggest a new switch.

Ah yes, thats the technical term. Changed the switch and relay to no avail. Time to investigate wiring....

Does anyone have ideas on where to start tracing the wiring and testing ?

Check the ignition switch in the steering lock mechanism.

Does the motor still run if you pull out the relay?

If you only drive when it's raining you should be ok! ;D ;D
Are you sure you changed the right relay? Pretty unusual to have an issue with the wiring on the wipers I'd have thought.

When I removed the relay, it stops. Otherwise they are constantly on (unless you put it onto fast speed, then they are fast).

I did use the correct relay when trying it.

Nick, how do you mean check the ignition switch in the steering lock mech ?

If they stop when you pull out the relay, then the fault is either the relay itself (switch contacts shorted together) - or if you're convinced the relay is fine, the relay coil is being powered all the time. Whether that's by a faulty wiper stalk switch, or a short to battery in the loom I don't know.
