finished about 8.30pm after a few minor issues (late spec water pipe and loom, charger belt tension, gear linkage!) we were off home.
Got home about 1.30am!!!
Needs a few tweaks but it aint bad!
good effort.
Mentalists for working in them temps.
I had Ice on the G inside the garage so just packed up and went inside. That was january the 2nd
nice one! looks like a busy day. it go alright then?
Awesome stuff!
I have the same spotlamp as you... handy for late night poloing!
You're mad, but it's good to see another one saved. Especially as it's got history attached to it.
well done for saving another g40
top job Pete, real good thing you did there. was that the engine out of the mk4 you had??
I have to ask, does the red Mk3 cry a lot, write deep poetry and listen to Evanescence?
alex - what???
er the engine is another spare i had, not out of the blue one!
His red Mk3 self harms!
It was bloody cold, I'm only just starting to feel warm again. Thanks to Junior for all his help and the brews, top lad. Trust Pete to pick one of the coldest weekends to do something like this.
I nearly bought this, but held off as I want a Turbo in my life :P
Nice G :)
i get it now!!!! cool plate!!!
the white one will get a good going over soon - making sure our pikey behaviour wasn't toooo pikey but getting there!
So you managed to get it done that day then, real top job. It looked like things were going pretty well for you when i turned up, and hell yeah, i can confirm it was bloody cold (and i was only out the car for 10mins or so)!!! Glad you got it back all safe and sound. Spot on Pete!!
good job there pete you are a g40 angle lol ;D
seen it on piston heads for sale ages ago.
well done anyway.
what was wrong with it ?
it had no engine!!!
other than that - brakes a sh1te as the m/c leaks fluid and the front end is all over the place... not sure if it is bushes etc.
plus it needs a bearing
+loooads of pikey bits of trim etc
+handbrake didnt work
nice one Pete. Another one to add to your collection! lol.
been doing work on this now for a while
so far
1. replaced the arb mount on drivers side as the arb threads were shot the two large m12 bolts that should be loctited in were slightly tight and had grease on the threads -hmmm
2. replaced both tcas with polybushes ones on the inner/outer joints - the ones on were 1g40 one with ball joint with 2mm play - 1std one with fecked bushes. The washers (tca to arb) were the wrong way round, cutting into the bushes)
3. poly bushed arb mounts
4. replaced front calipers - (which were only finger tight!) with refurbed ones - none of the sliders slid, a nipple was snapped and one piston had bellows which werent fitted right. But they were a lovely freshly painted black (who spends itme painting when something is obviously fecked?)
5. new passenger side wheel bearing - old one HOOOWWWLED
6. one normal steering arm replaced with a g40 one!
7. drivers seat arch cushion replaced - and tilt cable replaced
8. both drivers dash vents replaced
9. drivers seatbelt replaced (old one didnt recoil)
10. head light replaced.
11. exhaust tunnel brace replaced
Slowly taking shape though - better each day!!!
all sounds good, its one abused polo by the sounds of it.
i'd not say abused - neglected/pikeyed by the sounds of it!
another update.
New rear axle (other was toeing in on one side)
replaced rear shocks (one was soooo fecked it was just ooozing oil that side)
new rear shoes
now its almost the car it should be!
