Why do you think it's faulty? If it's broken I would think it wouldn't do anything. The idea is it detects engine knock and causes the ECU to back off the timing. If you're getting lots of pinking the base timing is probably out.

it has a shielded cable on it, if this is cracked and split then it could allow interference to get in and cause issues.

the g60 has a different part code for the knock sensor, it has a much longer cable on it - 300mm for g40, 740mm for g60.  Whether they are interchangeable, I don't know.

do GSF or euro sell them or is its a trip to VW?

Might replace it if its not to expensive.
Mine did seem to pink alot, mainly on tick over, if its not that could be the timing or ISV. Can't check at the mo currently doing a turbo conversion  ;D

the knock sensor isn't going to be causing it to "pink", it's just a failsafe that makes the ECU retard the ignition when pinking occurs, as long as it detects it OK.  It's just a microphone really.

I don't think GSF sell them, it's either VW or a Bosch dealer but I think you are wasting your money if you think that'll solve a pinking issue, start by checking the ignition timing.
