Title: fuel leak?
Post by: GAF2 on January 15, 2009, 11:41:19 am
i have a small fuel leak at my tank, i have checked the top through the inspection hole and it's dry and i dont think its the filler neck because it is dripping down just in front of the passenger back wheel? Am i looking at a new tank or could it be something else?

Thank you for any input. Grant.

could be a connection on one of the fuel lines, they rust with age.  You'll have to get under the car with a torch and figure out where it's coming from.

yeah I don't know where you get a tank for £30 from!  Cheapest I've seen is from fueltanksdirect for about 50+vat+delivery.  The filler necks on them need bending slightly to fit and they need painting or they'll rust again in no time.

I don't see the point of just replacing the fuel tank until you've confirmed that's what's actually leaking no matter how cheap a new tank is anyway.

Look for damage at the lower end of the filler neck. Unless cleaned regularly, stones get trapped between the neck and the body and can grind their way through.

Remember and paint the new tank before you put it on...
