Title: Turbo advice for 1W
Post by: benh999 on December 09, 2015, 09:01:39 PM
Folks.

Just a bit of advice, should I choose to go away from the supercharger and venture into turbo territory bearing in mind I will be using a 1w diesel bottom end and then capacity will be just shy of 1500cc what turbo can I use on her?

I will prob just use the ko3 turbo however I just wondered with the extra capacity can I go up to ko4 and if so which ko4 specific turbo will I need?

Cheers

Ben :)

What about somewhere in the middle? Ko3s turbo has a slightly bigger compressor wheel and should be able to flow the increased capacity your engine will have without the lag of the Ko4

Gt2554 or a gt2560 at 1.5 bar should be nice

Would have to fit direct on to a Rothe manifold?

Not sure they made the ko3s that is compatible with the Rothe manifold??

only the compressor side differs iirc. so it would be a case of getting a ko3s compressor fitted to a ko3 hot side.

I think I will go for a K04-15 eventually for mine, as thats about the most you can get a away with and still have half decent reliabilty with a 085 box

Numbers coming out of ko4 turbo'd G40 motors are not very good. All the lag with no substantial increase in power.

My mate had 1 bar @ 2000 rpm with ported head, rothe manifold and K04-15 at standard capacity

I don't think my big valve 1473 will struggle with lag...

Not sure

He had 1 bar @1800 with GT cam and K03

He ran a SLS G40 chip for G40 injectors, but with adjustable fpr and G60 greens....never ran quite right

Never got it to run right on that, or with my G60 injector map or with Autronic with COP ignition

Not sure on what cam I will run. The BV head has got a GT cam fitted at the moment

No it has a different flange.

You need a custom manifold

This one might fit

http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-VVW-233&Category_Code=VVWTK

Not sure how much extra space it takes up and how the Rothe compares to the OEM PAssat/A4 manifold
