Title: cam belt not central
Post by: polosteven40 on November 23, 2015, 08:18:37 PM
Hi all right here goes my g40 engine has been in bits for 5 years awaiting rebuild after head gasket failure and i finally got round to getting the old girl back together today. Got her running today but have noticed that the cam belt is off centre on the cam pully its running about a 1cm ovee towards the cam cover so the teeth are sticking off the camshaft pully a little. Looking down toward the water pump the belt is over to the cam cover side as well  and also on the crannk pully as well. Has anyone had this before ????? It is just over enough to just start to rub on the plastic cover that covers the bottom pully. Any help on this would be great as other than that im really happy with how the car is running

normal for them to run slightly off centre.  1cm sounds a hell of a lot though given that the belt is only about 2cm wide, do you have a picture?

it's normal to not be perfectly central but not normal to be hanging off the end by half a centimeter, that's far too much.

I'd start by looking at the water pump, see if it looks ok or if there's some problem with the  pulley on it.

The water pump is fine seems to be sitting bang in the middle of the pump pully
