Title: PPP Manifold hitting PPP Stage 3 Frame - HELP
Post by: UJA on October 14, 2015, 07:15:35 PM
I have fitted my PPP Stage 3 frame and PPP Manifold to my Mk2 G40, the problem i have now is the manifold / downpipe is touching the frame. Everything is fitted and tight and ready to go, but this is holding me up! If I drive it, not only will I have vibration but ill risk pulling the threads out the head where the manifold is bolted to where the engine is wanting to rock on the mounts!

Has anyone had this problem before and if so what was your solution?

Thanks

Gary

Hi, i know they sit close but it might be worth undoing the mounts and seeing if you can shift the engine backwards in the bay to see if it has any more clearance.

Yeah, im gonna give that a go and see how I get on, also may try the old gearbox mount to see if that is causing the problem.

Thanks

Doubt you will be able to fit the standard mount.

Gary means he's ging to remove the Golf G60 engine mount he's using, and fit the Polo one  ;)

From looking at the pictures, the rear mount is larger than a stock one, altering the angle of the engine significantly enough the manifold clashes with the subframe.

Worth a note - some new after market engine mounts, aren't the same dimensions as standard ones, and may require modifying to ensure the engine is sitting at the correct original angle.

Cheers

Pete

I removed the G60 mount and compared it to the G40 one, the dimensions are identical so Ive re fitted the G60 one, I managed to get 2mm clearance between the manifold and frame by moving the engine as much as possible on loosened mounts. Just going to keep an eye on the gap to see if it changes, fingers crossed its ok for now.
