My g40 has suddenly started to hunt at idle after the instalation of gt inlet manifold, sounds like a really lumpy cam, does it just need a good run for the ecu to register the extra air entering the System?
Plus on the removal of the injector rail noticed number 4 injector has a slight crack in the yellow cap at the end , i couldnt imagine this to be a problem but wanted to check see what people thought..
On that note a 1.3 NZ injector is it the same as a g40 one? Spray delivery etc etc?
Cheers Danny.
It will stabilize after a couple of days but you will have to adjust the idle from the screw so that it idles a little bit higher than with the original G40 inlet, that is what I did when I installed mine and it works fine! The crack I wouldn't bother with if the rubber ring behind it is in good condition.
Ok had a good clean and run out ready for vw festival in the morning , during travel engine is acting like it has a tank of dodgy fuel in her fine under acceleration however at a costant speed it splutters and hick ups and occasionaly on lift off the engine revs its self a few times and then resumes to normal running.
Have tried adjusting the air mixture screw revs do increase , runs a little sweater but still is hunting on tic over and emmisions coming from the rear is far too rich like neat petrol.
Where is the mixture screw located ?
Surely the inlet wont have effected the engine so that i have to speed the timing up or retard it?
I have also tried unplugging the afm on the hard pipe dosent seem to effect the engine in the slightest is this normal ? And also unplugged the TPS on throttlebody revs are raised but steady??
I'd bung it into setup/ diagnostic mode and run through the tickover setup.
Well has gone bad to catastrophic on way back from Harewood , was having issues of running problems and running rich eventually it breaking down 20 mins from home , had spark and fuel, was turning over and wouldn't bump start either.
Compression tested this morning thinking it had done the worse , got 2 cylinders at 30 and 2 at 60 pounds of pressure so something seriously wrong has happened so took the engine to bits carnt see much wrong either with the head valves or gasket cylinders or block part from slight scoring on each cylinder but no ridges.
Question I have is it worth to upgrade Pistons to these wossner Pistons I have seen especially with the price of em , do you gain much for what they cost or do new Oem Pistons cope ok with the usal common mods to G40's?
Also with valves do I upgrade them to larger ones do the head work to cope with them or keep original ?
When you broke down what happened noise wise?
Was the 2 cylinders with low compression next to each other?
Was there any burn\black sooty marks on the head gasket between the cylinders?
