Hi I have just had a 4 branch manifold fitted but my g40 seam to be slower. My belts on the changer feel slack. How do I tighten them up. I have looked but can't see were to loosen off and so on any help would be grate.
Also anyone know if you have to take the engine out to fit toothed belts. Thanks Glyn
Don't matter sorted it now. Let's hope it God better now
*torques quoted are from memory, from Haynes manual. Feel free to correct me/ edit my post to suit*
For reference (ie anyone else looking at this thread for answers in future);
Use the square hole in the charger to put a torque wrench into.
If you're fitting new vee-belts then apply 110Nm of torque and nip up the bolts that allow the supercharger to tilt (to adjust belt tension).
If it's refitting used vee-belts then 80Nm.
If you're using a toothed belt (or cam belt, drive belt, whatever you want to call it) then do it to the point where you can almost rotate the belt to 90 degrees (ie pinch the belt with your fingers and twist it, if you can twist it more than 90degrees it's too slack, if you can't twist it to 90 degrees then it's most likely too tense and will wear the charger and alternator bearings out quicker, although you will get a lovely whine ;) ).
I always found a little trial and error was best for toothies (toothed belt) and is worth checking fairly regularly as the charger can slacken as well as the belt wearing - check the profile of the teeth, make sure they're not worn too much as it'll soon chobble it's way through.
Biggest bit of advice though; ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE BELT (or belts if vee belts) Look up Pete G40 on here or in the classifieds bit, you can buy them from the club cheap and know they are correct.
For the sake of £10-£15 you can wang them in the boot out the way and forget about them until needed on that fateful day where you're trying to get somewhere and the fucking belt snaps leaving you stranded....... for the sake of a tenner you could have spent earlier on an item that doesn't go off (ie you can keep a belt for ages before use, not like buying a persihable item that will need replaced after X time regardless of whether its been used or not).
