So my spec is
R1 Spec
65mm Toothies
4-2-1 Manifold 2 1/4" decat exhaust
51mm TB
GT Inlet
Boost return mod
Jetex cone filter
RR'd at 161bhp at the time. so possibly a BVH.
I have fitted these without adjusting the chip
4-2-1 Manifold 2 1/4" decat exhaust
51mm TB
GT Inlet
The only thing Im missing is G60 injectors, am I likely to be running lean or pushing the injectors my current setup?
If I fit G60's will I need to chip it immediately? I.E does it run like a bag of crap?
Just dont want to go through the effort of injectors and a new chip for the new chip to not be as good as my current setup.
Mine's a similar spec to yours but I have a high lift cam on it, I've put g60 injectors on mine and it runs like ass (saying that it wasn't exactly smooth before)
Drives ok and power delivery is alright but it's over fueling and idle is very rough, that could be down to the cam though, I plan on getting mine mapped correctly on a new chip hopefully this year.
There used to be a general rule banded about which was as soon as you to 160 (165?) BHP the injectors are going flat out and you'd be better with greens.
Vaguely remember yoof or andy explaining it really well in a post in years gone by.... possibly on PSD forum.
What chip do you run?
Also do you have a afr/rpm figure?
I ran G60 injectors on a map for G40 injectors and on full throttle all it did was over-fuel.
You could hear it was just pouring well too much fuel in and there was just a cloud of black smoke coming out the back.
When I got a chip for G60 injectors the car was much better to drive, it overfuels on idle but that's the only downside I have found.
why don't you try something between g40 and g60 injectors?!
here in Portugal, some guys get fiat punto gt injectors, it runs great with no overfueling
here you have the part number/specs
Bosch 0280150701
15,7 ohms
236cc @ 3 bar
G60 injectors (or any larger capacity ones) need a chip to match, otherwise the fuelling will end up all to cock.
As a rule of thumb, G40 192cc injectors are good for around 160bhp or so, but beware of using a power limit to size your injectors - it's only a very very rough estimate. If you're still holding sensible air/fuel ratio (AFRs) values on full-throttle, and the injectors are operating at a sensible duty cycle (your mapper will be able to tell this) - then there is no need to change them.
Until you've added cylinderhead modifications and a different camshaft, I'd say you're likely to be fine with standard injectors. I've seen a few G40s make 175bhp or more on stock injectors - though then you get into a dyno accuracy argument, hence why it's best to go by AFRs and the numbers in your map to determine when to upgrade!
The punto injectors sound interesting.
And Cheers Andy, the car has been running spot on and has done a few track days already I was just threating.
I will get it done in the future, just as you say after headwork ect.
