Title: engine fitting order
Post by: paulpolo on March 25, 2015, 03:05:42 PM
I'm just getting ready to drop my g40 engine in my GT but I can't remember the best order to fit stuff. Can I bolt the exhaust manifold (PPP) to the engine before I lower it in? Or will it hit the back of the engine bay?
Anything else that would be wise to do in a specific order for a g40 engine?

Just bolt gearbox and block together and lower it in. Fit water pipe, breather pod and knock sensor to the back of the block before hand. Fit exhaust manifold afterwards because its tight enough to do. You could also use the help of two more people to guide it in. Definitely at least one other person. You could do it yourself if you have the right strap to level the engine [I didn't].

I fitted/torqued the head afterwards as I was a bit worried about it messing with the stretch bolts and maybe contributing to premature head gasket failure. Might have been a bit picky about that but better safe than sorry.

Everything else bolts up pretty handy after that, so you don't need to do it with the engine out i.e. inlet manifold/throttle body/alternator etc.

I'm sure somebody else has done it a different way, but that's the way I did it and it was simple.

I've got the block and head all bolted up with the water pipe, knock sensor and breather pod.

I'll fit the manifold when the engines in then

Cheers for the reply

Tbf I have everything attached when I lower it in, bar the lader. Just makes it easier!
