hey all....can anyone tell me the easiest way of doin a rear dics conversion regards the pipe work and handbrake cables. ive got a mk2 rear disc setup and a polo gti setup just wondering what cables and pipework to use....??
You will need the flexy pipe from the mk2 caliper and just make up a hard line to go between that flexi and the original Polo flexy.
For the handbrake cables you can use the Polo ones but you need these

to adapt them onto the caliper.
Also I mounted the cable opposite to how they are standard. I forget which way you go but just opposite to how it is now using the same mounting holes.

Why do people do the rear disc conversion? There's no advantage other than aesthetics surely? More expensive parts, less reliable (sticking rear VW caliper anyone?). The rear brakes barely do anything!
If you get the rear calipers from the mk4 Golf then they don't seem to seize up compared to the mk2 Golf ones.
I'm yet to run my conversion on the road, just got it all set up.
But the main reasons for me are I hate working on drum brakes and I got the complete conversion for free.
Well, can't argue with that! Personal preference and free parts! :D
