Hey chaps, as my mk1 G conversion is nearing completion i thought i'd share some pics
I aimed to build one of the most complete mk1 g40 conversions i know of, i hope i've come close or at least pulled off a nice looking install

Thanks for looking, olly
Top Work
Intercooler pipework looks very smart 8)
Keep up the good work!
A great engine for that car. I had planned on a turbo conversion 1272cc in my mk1, but time and space led me to selling it.
Handling on a mk1 golf is truely superb, with that wee engine brapping under the hood it'll be a hoot!
thanks chaps, mot due friday - been off the road for 10 years :o
This is what it looked like when i bought it in feb - no parts :(

Did you not sell this?
Is it a straight drop? I am looking for a suitable donor vehicle for my engine
yes Sam - took a deposit a while back but told the buyer i wanted to finish a few bits before i let it go :D
physicsfool need custom drivers mount and i made one for passenger side so i could run ATV box but as conversions go it's not bad. proper wishbones etc too so can lay power down better (not that i've used it yet haha)

I'd struggle to sell it on after putting that much effort in too.
Engine bay looks like a good size for a G engine...although imagine finding a mk1 golf shell rust free isn't common or cheap.
Looks smart. Was it beige originally?
samg40 - i am wondering more and more if i've done the right thing selling it, so simple, easy to work on and looks nice :(
joeh - yea they fit in nicely, i built one around 10 years ago but was very new to conversions then, i've learned a lot inc mig / tig welding since then so wanted this one to be the best looking mk1 g40 engine bay.
the car is a golf n (n for nothing / pov spec) there's only 4 1980 golf n's left, after i bought it i found service history inamongst the crap in the back and it's done 34k miles :o i paid 3k for it with no parts but is the cleanest mk1 i've ever seen personally.
randombadger - yea it was beige, with the service history there was actually a photo of the car ;D it's a shame it's not the original colour tbh but this was a 3k paint job apparently :o
i'll see if i've got a copy of the pic

Wow!paint does look very good!
Hearing aid beige sleeper would have been awesome!
