Post by: oldskoolmat on June 05, 2014, 05:53:04 PM
Gonna be rebuilding 'charger soon an it's got quite a bit of grease/oil in it,what's the best thing clean it up with, regular degreaser okay or is it likely to damage it? lashings of WD 40 maybe?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance-Matt

Pete g40 uses some cheap degreaser which works wonders, so I wouldn't worry too much about chemicals damaging it. Saying that do not what ever you do, use wheel cleaner, acid or anything caustic as it will obliterate the magnesium alloy

I used surfex by bilt and hamber, it's water based but does a better job of decreasing oil than heavy duty solvent degreasers, top stuff! It's cheap too! A big bottle is £20 but dilutes down to 10 to 1 so last ages!! Gets thick gundge of really well!! Is even gentle enough to use on delicate things too as it reduces down with water :)

petrol/carb cleaner/cheap degreaser - but be careful, anything such as parts washer can/will corrode the displacer/scroll!

Mate, only the finest newspaper at that. Yes I must add I replaced every seal and bearing so didn't have any worries about damage to the greased/moving parts
