Title: Engine temperature / Expansion Tank / Water pump
Post by: sparkz786 on May 24, 2014, 06:03:33 PM
Okay so got the g up and running and over the last week fiddling little bits on it and i have had it up to temperature several times .. Today i run it after 2 days and get it to temperature and switch it off, i notice the expansion water tank level is raised almost to the top!! Why could this be? The rad is a bit shabby .. And the water pump is brand new, fitted a few months ago (only got it running a week ago)
Any advice or help?
The other query i may aswell chuck in is where do i wire the fan so it kicks in withthe thermo as the last owner had it running from a switch :/

have the rad thermo switch out and check under there - they can be silted up so the switch never gets to temperature so kick in!

I do believe the switch was supposed to be turned on at the previous owners discretion rather than as and when the car is at temp .. So shall i check where the rad thermo switch and check if i can wire to there?

And anyone got any solutions for the other query? Cheers

Why not take the switch out of the rad... ensure its not silted up underneath and if it is, clear it out so it works properly. ... or even buy a new rad at about 25 quid

Awesome. Cheers Pete. When the weather clears up a but i'll get back to work!! Everytime the car heats up to temperature the coolant in the expansion tank just rises though havent yet left it long enough to see if it will begin to pour our of the overflow. The rad is a bit battered on there so possibly the issue?
