hmmm i dunno...i think its a lot..but its pretty much a brand new car...and youll be hard pushed to find another one like it...i wouldnt buy it though purely cos its left hand drive, which is something i dont want or like.  Id feel awful driving something as nice as that daily... it would have to be kept in a garage and kept nice if i were to have something like that.

Ok fair enough, but look at it another way.
How much do you think it would cost to buy a totally original and exceptional condition G40, then completely strip it down and totally rebuild everything to the condition of this one? Total up a full bare metal respray, complete mechanical overhaul and replacement of any trim with new that it might need.

I personally wouldn't buy it because it's LHD, but then I wouldn't buy another G40 anyway. However, for someone who wants a mint and totally original G40 then you'd be hard pressed to find a better one.

yeah if you look at it like that, but is the one advertised here in that good condition?, you can't really tell from 3 photo's, i do understand where you're coming from but you can't really use this car as an example, yes it is tidy looking and yes the mileage is super low but is it immaculate?
i just think its way over priced.

cheers Tom

it's still a 15+ year old polo, I wouldn't even pay half that price for it myself.  Could buy a so much better car for that money, totally mint Lancia Delta Evo 2 or 3 or an equally mint Audi UR Quattro....the list goes on.  In fact, how much do Dialynx charge for their Sport quattro replica conversions?

Well! For a start there is the little old dear close to me with the grey metallic G40 with 29k
on the clock that i`m waiting for and its every bit as good a condition as this.
And of course, its right hand drive.
But then, if i had that kind of money spare i`d buy a Lotus Elise.

Yeah Tom, obviously I'm assuming that this is a TOTALLY MINT example.

Of course you can buy a much better car for the money, but that's not the point.
Why do people spend in excess of £10k on a standard 25 year old Ford Escort mk1 Mexico, VW Camper or an MGB Roadster? By today's standards they aren't very good cars at all, but if people really want something they will pay for it.

For instance a friend of mine has just bought a 53 plate BMW 130i for £10.5k. IMO, it's a pig ugly looking thing with very limited interior space. The only redeaming feature it has is its 249bhp 3 litre engine and excellent chassis. However, this isn't of much use driving around Sutton where he lives. Pointless car, but he absolutely loves it.
I'd far rather spend that sort of money on my Polo, but that's just me. It all depends what people want. If this LHD German G40 is really as good as it ought to be for the money they're asking, it could well be worth every penny to someone who's after a totally mint, original and low mileage one.

BTW hayesey, the awesome Dialynx conversions are around £9k painted. First you need to supply them with a base car though and with those looks I'd want a 20v engine modified to circa 350 bhp, a full roll cage, the "right" wheels and tyres, proper race seats etc etc. You could easily spend £25k without looking up, and probably a lot more.
As for Lancia Delta Evo's, hell yeah - they are fantastic driving machines. However, you try and find a genuinely mint one! The bodyshells not only rust overnight, but stress cracks in the bulkhead, A posts and underbody are an "expected" problem that occurs even on road only cars! :o Somewhat fragile?

Its fine mate, no nerves touched Tom. ;D
It really must be an absolute minter for this money though, I totally agree.

Ouch! How much?

Does look sweet but as said, not alot can be worked out from 3 photos. LHD would make for some scary overtaking too!

Guy i work with just got a lancia delta evo iirc. Where he finds all these performance cars he drives is beyond me.

And for all intents and purposes impossible to get out of the car park at work(http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

You would benefit from having better brakes though.

LHD doesn't actually make for scary overtaking... perhaps better overtaking.

As you hang back... look further ahead than normally, and you make sure you have plenty of space!

the only annoying things are - ticket machines in carparks and when buses pull up abruptly and you can't see round (as in traffic you dont tend to leave enough space at first anyway), you just have to wait!

I often drive left hooker Bentleys for work and it can be a pain when overtaking and when you ge to the toll road but they are GREAT for undertaking on motorways.............
