Hi guys,
I haven't had a lot of luck with this now and getting fed up.. please help me :(
I have recently converted to turbo, and it was running fine until...
I snapped a rocker bolt so I took the rocker off and got the broken stud out.. I had to remove the dizzy and the end cam cap thing
Once I fit back together I went to start it... the engine was turning but there was no fire
I noticed the fuel pump wasn't priming and the relay was slightly clicking when i turned the ignition
I unplugged and cleaned the fuel relay and then it fired fine
But it has developed this hesitation only sometimes .. It's like it cuts all the fuel for a second and really jolts????
Things i have tried
I have just changed the in line fuel pump and fuel filter and I have changed the fuel pump relay and it has done bugger all ?
I have changed the distributor and dizzy cap
Sometimes it wont start again until i take the fuel relay out and put it back in, but it has got this constant hesitation
Could it be anything to do with the ecu relay playing up?
If anyone can suggest anything that might help i would love it as to top it of someone crashed into the back of me so i'm thinking about breaking up if this doesn't get solved
Thankyou
Rich

This cant happen! How bad is the rear end?
Have you checked that the contacts of the fuel pump relay is clean or not burned and tight?
Mines kinda doing the same thing Rich. Hesitates and then goes again so really interested if anyone has any ideas.
after removing the dizzy and refitting, have you set the base timing and the ignition timing?
I haven't set the base time or ignition timing
But no marked the dizzy before removing and put back in the same place but that was next in the list but it doesn't seem to be a misfire it seems to be the fuel cutting which causes engine to cut out for a sec then instantly coming back on
As for the relays all the contacts are clean and not corroded
Yeah I took the car out for a spin to see if the new fuel pump and filter did the job and some went into the back of me rear bumper bootlid and rear valance I haven't took the bumper off to inspect yet but doesn't like too tidy
Rich - the wiring at the back of the relay good?
Other thing to check, if you remove the hall sender, and turn the rotor arm over by hand (ignition on) can you hear the pump prime and injectors fire?
Pete thanks
But.....
After 5 hours I have sorted it
I've changed the
ecu relay
Fuel pump and filter
Fuel pump relay
Lamda sensor
Dizzy
I've set ignition timing
I've done a compression test
As I was a spark plug the ratchet hit he body which caused the fuel pump to prime
I started and simulated the same thing my touching the engine against the body and the engine hesitates like when driving
I realised when I tapped the ecu it was priming the pump so I took apart the ecu and checked for obvious burnt out or dodgy connections and found the chip to be loose :s so obv when I drove and hit a bump or boosted hard it would shake the ecu causing the chip to loose connection!
Stupid me not pushing the chip in enough!!
Such an easy fix but pain in the arse diagnosing
Thanks for all your replies guys
Rich
Well in Rich! Least its found man
Thanks man
Aha yeah I know a big relief
Something so silly and little
Happy now :)
I don't think anyone would have suggested that. Good find!
Nice work. Gonna have a look at mine just incase.
glad it was an easy fix, shame you have to repair the back now to get it back to how it was.
cheers for the exhaust as well.
