Post by: g40jr on April 29, 2014, 11:38:32 AM
Hi folks just a quick one.  I'm just finishing my g40 and it needs a clutch   It only has slight mods so about 140bhp  what clutch would anyone recommend fitting. I am looking for more power in near future too

For less than £100 you can get an LUK clutch good to about 150bhp. Otherwise you are looking at performance clutches that cost between £200-400 depending on spec.

depends on budget really

I was thinking about a helix organic one. But will stick with the LUK one for now as i wont be pushing more than 140 when i am finished!

I was running a Helix paddle on the g40 when it was daily and running 160bhp, only got it as I knew at the time I would want more power, which now the car is being fully rebuilt  :)

Personally i have never heard of Panther Performance and the name and branding certainly doesnt scream quality. I wouldnt be at all surprised to find that their 'stage one' clutch is no better than a totally standard clutch under testing, but that said its down to someone with first hand experience to give their opinion. I would go with a LUK one and save the money or go Helix.

Just thought I'd add my opinion :-)

On my old G I used to run a standard Clutch (can't remember brand but likely to be OEM spec) and ran unto 160-170 BHP with no issues.
I would say though that anything over 150-60 get a performance clutch. The standard was ok but I did find that it would get a glaze easily and fade when booting it, although i used to run it up the track at Santa Pod many times in a day and it stuck in but faded fast.

I am just about to stick another standard clutch in mine as I am only running about 140 BHP as a daily at the minute and as soon as I do a rebuild in a year or so I'll put something better in.

To be honest it depends how you drive it, if you boot it everywhere the standard clutch is fade quickly on 150 BHP +
