i have a 8p gearbox ?
which is balls coz it aint the right one
so now im on the look out for a g40 atv box
but im also looking for a diff
wat diff could a use?
i knw there to be several choices but i ask which is best?
and if the answer is "its all down to the driver" then it changes to what are the differences to what they do ?
i'll have a g40 box for sale soon
as for diffs, its either a dr grippa or a quaife.
any ideas on wats different?
and which is either better for box or easier to fit?
i dont plan to do myself
althought few years in the trade and built engines
gear boxs still scare me !
gripper diffs are plate type diffs and quaife ones are auto-torque-biasing ones. ATBs are probably better for a daily driver but plate diffs will be more effective on track. The ATBs for 085 boxes are brand new, quaife have only just made the first batch. I don't know if anyone has actually used one yet.
I've had a couple of different plate diffs in my g40, started off with an old gemini unit which broke last year, now using one of the new gripper diffs which seems excellent and hasn't broke yet!
ah i see, does the plate diff give more 50/50 power to the wheels? its just i have a big problem with traction, in all the lower half of the gears.
i enjoy trackdays and quarter miles as i dont see point in spendin all this money and not making use and fun of it!
quarters are scary because everything from 1.2 corsa see me off the line.
plate diff is a more basic thing, when one wheel starts to lose grip, the diff just locks up so 50% of power goes to each wheel. With an ATB there are a complex set of gears inside which transfer power to each wheel. Do some google searching, there is a lot of information on both types out there.
