Hi guys, so Ive had a crazy idea ;D
There's a g60 engine for sale near me, including everything bar the charger.
Do you think it would be possible to run a g60 engine on a g40 charger ;)
It would obviously need to be remapped, but apart from fitting the charger and engine/modding the chassis, what other things need to be considered?
Cheers
Engine capacity on the G60 is larger. As a result it flows more air. Because of that fact a supercharger with a larger inlet is needed - hence the G60 over the G40. 20mm (diameter) bigger inlet on charger. G40 charger would strangle it.
Yeah makes sence, but surly some forced induction is better than none. ie if you were to add a turbo/supercharger to a standard 1.8 you would still see power gains right?! Or am I thinking about this all wrong?
Yes, but unless they are matched to create the best package it's a pointless exercise. Drivability and reliability would be compromised if not.
Yeah it would be pretty pointless from a performance point of view.
Maybe going turbo would be better?
But on that size of block you'd just go for the later 1.8T slag that's been used in everything! They're not too dear and you'll get more power. You'd wind up using a 1.8T turbocharger to boost you're earlier 8v engine. Again, not really logical in my opinion. I take it you're planning bulkhead mods to get the larger block in anyway?
Why not get a g60 charger to go with the cheep motor ;-)

Haha is it you selling it?? It is very cheap ;)
No mate lol just looking at what you said and without the charger he can't be asking that much ,I just got my 2nd g40 though ;-) thought I'd add that lol
Also the engine is slow revving compared to the g40, so the charger might not produce a great deal of boost. But you could run it on a really small pulley.
Plus you'll need some sort of mount/adapter made.
