Title: Breakdown - poor cold idle
Post by: JoeH on March 12, 2014, 10:22:45 AM
Hey,

My G has just broken down, I can turn engine over with battery no problem, but it won't start, and when it did starts it idles at 500-700 rpm and sounds like it has a misfire.

Its been like it for a week or so and gets better (100%) once warm, but today it just won't keep going or even start now.

I'm fairly certain, coil, leads, plugs etc are all up to date.

Wondering what sensor it may be...

Anyideas very much appreciated

What about the hall sender?

I had one that failed and had similar problems.

blue temp sender id say, try another and see if it effects the running

DKNight nailed it.

Blue temp sensor it was,  it read the coolant to be -30degrees, so consequently the ECU was over fueling.. yet when up to temp, the sensor was reading near enough normal.

That's why it sounded like misfire from cold, too much fuel! yet when warm it was fine.

Did read a bit about dizzy's & hall senders, but couldn't find much consensus it was start only issue, although failure of them can cause start and idle issues, in fact more people reckon hall sender issues are apparent when car is warmed up

Thanks all
