If you're doing the cambelt then a waterpump's a worthwhile renewal at the same time. If the head's coming off then a valve grind would be in order too. For that reason, I put mine to a machine shop and got new valve guides at the same time plus a chemical clean. Unless your cam's pretty rough, I would leave the followers as they will be well mated to the cam lobes. Only worth changing if there's a cam change. Not too sure if you can still get the PY head gasket, but the metal 6N one does the job. Rocker cover gasket's now extinct I believe, but a fine smear of silicone both sides of your existing one usually does the job. Inlet and exhaust gaskets still available, but the exhaust gasket at the junction of the manifold to the downpipe's another Dinosaur. Most cylinder head specialists can source the bits and pieces, but people like Bartek are good for headbolts.
Re-building cleanliness is the order of the day. A can of good old Wynn's Friction Proofing is excellent for re - builds. Smear on cam bearings, cam lobes, cam followers etc. anywhere that might suffer from a dry start-up. It will still be there weeks after it's applied if you have any hold-ups. Hope this is of some help.

I bought the Elring gasket set that Pete recommends on "doing a head gasket properly" came with most gaskets needed for a top end rebuild. I went for standard bolts as the g40 specific ones are top dolla. And any bolts for the head I got from Vw. Including the exhaust mani bolts and nuts.
