Title: G40 turbo questions
Post by: Langsam on November 16, 2013, 10:23:36 AM
Right I've got a few questions that have been buggin me for some time.

I plan using my G for actual track days and fast road.

What do people do with regards to radiators? My standard G rad is fubard, so I'm thinking Ali performance rad or is just a case of a new standard rad?

I'm looking on the bar-trek website drooling over parts, for a headgasket. Is the aex metal head gasket any good for my application or should I fork out for a all singing all dancing one off bar-tek?

What is the ccm on a standard G injector would it be worth while now upgrading to g60 injectors? Also what are g60 injectors rated to power wise?

What is the power limit of a g40 fuel pump? Is there upgrade I can do or am I wasting my time?

Once I've built my car back up, I'm running a standard G40 bottom end. Who can remap the standard ecu for me?

Cheers for any feedback

If you can afford it i'd fork out on an ally radiator especially if youre doing track days,
Bar-tek is normally more expensive but im sure people on here use a different head gasket for compression running a turbo
Definitely run g60 injectors as they are good up to 190-200hp and im sure they are about 200cc
And andy/yoof on here from polo performance parts are the best for a remap! Im sure some other guys will answer a few other questions you have :)

Have a read of the thread by Cheys in the turbo FAQ or in the build section or mine for that matter. In regards to the pump I'd change it anyways. Got a sytec one on mine and its been fine £50 . Bartek is horrendously over priced I mean well over. Especially when you can get the metal headgaskett from a 6n which does the job.

It's fairly expensive to go turbo and you won't make that money back, so if your not planning on keeping the car a while I would'nt bother. £1000 is the about cost if you scrimp on everything. But then it can run on and on if you like the pukka pieces which add reliability. Saying that it's a decent set up which drives brilliantly, you most definately need a quaife lsd (mine spins up in all weather in 1-2-3). Get some gauges all set up pre conversion too so you have base info.

Radtec do a 'Westfield' alloy radiator which is a Mk3 Polo one.

Get the HG from GSF or similar for an AEX Polo 6N. If you want any other Bartek parts Polo-PP on here have a trade account so can usually get things cheaper.

G60 injectors are good for up to 200bhp or thereabouts on a G40. Stock G40 injectors are 192cc/min.

Theoretical limit of the G40 inline pump is over 200bhp, I still run one on mine without issue - but upgraded ones are often cheaper than OEM replacements...

Thanks everyone for the info.

I'll go down uprated Ali rad then, I have been looking at the Westfield/polo rads on eBay for some time now.

The car has already been converted to turbo but poorly so I'm just goin through it and replacing upratingng as I go. The only things I'm looking at on bartek is arp studs and nuts, headgasket and copper exhaust manifold gasket.

But thanks a lot for the info again people.
