Awesome! Loving it.
Which I believe have had a big shunt according to old thread on Club Polo, so buyer beware. Interesting none the less! You can assume being an ex-racer it's pretty rough and had plenty of 'action.'
if only I had 2.5k lol
Could probably just about make £2.5k by breaking it - as long as engine/box/LSD are okay and suspension is good. Size and contents of the spares package are probably the dealer maker/breaker!
awesome, why does it say VW Golf g40 cup car though ???
One of the sister cars to my one. Absolute bargain for anyone that wants to go racing or do track days.
Way to good to break, it did have some body damage when purchased by Phil Latchford but as he owned a body shop that repairs Rolls Royce cars it was repaired with ease.
Always wondered, how easy is it to make a cup car like this road legal?

They were originally production road cars (possibly with some interior bits etc. missed off) sold with a kit of parts (seat, suspension etc.) to turn them into one make racers. They will have a normal VW chassis number so you should be able to get a dating letter from VW and road register one on an age related plate. Likely to be H or J reg. Just need to make sure its got road stuff like horn still fitted and get an MOT on the chassis number first. Lots will have been reshelled with a road car anyway so you could run into problems if the chassis number is recorded as a write off, not been re-registered, sorned properly etc.
Passenger sill looks like its had a bit of hammer! Cheap though for a good start to a track day car.
if i was racing a mk2 golf this year i'd definately be buying that
I sooo nearly bought this, but didn't have the space... I would've raced it tho as that's what it was meant for. Hope that's what happens to it, would be a real shame if it got broke for spares or something
Be nice to see it back on track, have raced against that car many times. Planning to get my one back on track next season, would be nice to race against another Polo again.
Hope it pops up again soon :) I tried to buy this too but didnt get a response from the seller :(
Does anyone know what happened to this in the end?
If it was found, would anyone be interested in racing it?
I would, as my current mods are set to take a few months, be nice to have something to track and hillclimb in the interim period.
Shame there's not enough left to consider a series competition event (ala Mk2 Golf Championship)
Trouble is people keep buying them & breaking them for parts not many original cars left now.
Plenty of series they can run in.
Eligible for VAG Saloons if you just want to race other VAG car's
Classic Touring car championship in Pre 93 Touring Cars Class D. (ran my car in this)
SEMSEC Sports & Saloons
BARC South East Region Tin Tops (planning to run in this for 2014)
BARC run other championships via the other region centers that a G40 can run in.
Classic Sports Car Club Tin Tops series.
Yes there have been a few that have been broken for no reason, although the parts live on in many track Polos (and some road ones).
I think the quality of some repair jobs on the Cup Cars left the vulnerable Polo chassis in a fairly poor state, and because Polos don't have the cult following (apart from us sad lot) they got broken for spares or forgotten about.
I don't really have the spare cash and definitely not the time to race it but if the price is right and it is available still I would be interested in restoring it and then keeping it stored away until I could. And probably doing some track days with it.
Have traced the car, waiting to hear if it's going to be available :)
