If this isn't breaking the laws of the forum :-[, can I gauge any interest in who would perhaps want a brand new set of PSD Phase 1 pulleys, including the belt (?)......and if this thread takes off, perhaps it could be moved to the 'Group Buys' section? ;)
Basically...I have been in contact with Pace Products who I believe were the manufacturers of the original PSD pulleys (the best one's out there 8)) and after retrieving all their plans from archive, they have come back to me with a quote for 10 sets. :)
Now the worst bit is that they aren't cheap - I have been quoted £324.78 (plus VAT, plus delivery) per set so should be around £380 inc VAT (plus delivery). They're only based around 50 miles from me so not mega far and I may be able to collect them.
Anyway, so who would be keen on this and if so...how would payment be preferred? I can't afford to shell out nearly £4,000 of my own money but am willing to do what I can. Do you think this price is actually reasonable? Its more than I was expecting to be fair!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Chris.
What's differences between phase 1 and 2?
phase 1 are made of steel, later ones alu. The steel ones are heavier but not as prone to wear as later ones. I've seen later ones with *very* worn teeth but I'm not sure if that's down to poor materials or using the wrong kind of belt. Some people used a cambelt which had the wrong tooth profile.
Hmmm...I wasn't aware they were made from steel - I thought all PSD pulleys were aluminium but different grades & anodisings!? If they are steel then that's a ridiculous price seeing as you can get steel ones from Germany for half that price. I'll do some more investigating...
£380 is a lot of money!
But they dont pop up often. If they are made from steel might be cheaper to get them from germany.
I know pace products are top quality, but i ordered some german bar tek steel toothies for £165 inc postage and vat, and the quality is 2nd to none, have been really well machined with alot of thought gone into them, ive done 3000 hard miles on them now with hardly any wear, they also come with a conti grip belt which is £30 on its own!!!
what im saying is, £400 is a serious amount of money, and i doubt there is much in it between the german product for £165
But still, nothing ventured nothing gained :)
Right guys, I've heard back from Pace and this was their response:
"Good Morning
The Aluminium parts will be made from Aircraft Grade aluminium, with Mild Steel Crank Pulleys
I hope this is OK"
So how does that sound to you price-wise? Still seems to be a lot but not sure how much they were originally. If a set of second hand PSD one's come up these days, they're anywhere between £150 & £250 aren't they?
Cheers,
Chris.
It does seem a lot of cash for a set of these, which admitidly would last a long time. I couldn't justify 2/3 sets at that price
Having also looked into the phase 2 versions recently I am waiting for a final price to come back on them for a small batch.
My thoughts on this was:
1. Pace weren't going to make any more - now proven wrong
2. They wore, but some reported worse than others, however the amount of miles people do now days this would usually be a good few years use, some people saying 10k, and others claiming 20k with minimal wear.
Think pricewise they were looking at around £225, so it might be a more feasible option?
