Digifant ECU relays

Hi, my ecu relay has packed up and i had to get the car towed home. rac bloke said it was the immobilisers but after further testing i found it was the ecu relay in the scuttle

obsolete from vw in 2010
cant get one from the scrapyard and 5 pin relays from digifant 3 dont work the insides are different

has anyone got two spare as id like one as back up. good condition genuine please
the sooner the better as i keep having to take it out and hit it to stop it sticking

MaxRPM also sell a replacement relay, but it's just a 5-pin automotive relay without the diode in it. It's Herth+Bus part number: 75613154 if you want to check it out. Am sure it'll work if you're stuck, but it's missing the diode which I suspect VW put in for a reason!

Just had a quick look at the G40 circuits to remind myself how the relay is wired. Both terminal 86 and 87a can turn the relay on, 87a is an ignition feed and 86 controlled by the Digifant ECU.

The whole ECU system's woken up by the ignition being turned on via terminal 87a, but after the ignition goes off, Digifant can use pin 86 to hold the relay in. This means the ECU can keep itself alive for a short while after key off to write fault codes to memory etc.

The diode is in terminal 87a. Without it, when Digifant is in 'keep alive' it would back-feed the ignition circuits through the relay.

The one from digifant 3, when i plugged it in with the ignition off i could hear the relay latching across as soon as i plugged it in. then when i started the car.. nothing so that explains it

so i need a proper specific relay with the diode in it? any ideas where to get a couple? pretty poor that vw dont make them anymore. where do people go for them? i will get the exact part number in a sec
getting really worried now. supposed to be going to switzerland in it and it keeps breaking down

the part number is 321919505A
its 12v 40amp
metal and sits in the scuttle tray. and looks like a standard 5 pin relay
if youve got a couple and want to sell them that would be spot on

TPS can be shit at times, so worth trying VW directly and also VW Classic Parts?

Vw said they are obsolete and heritage dont list them, they have one thats got the same insides as the polo ecu one (its used for t4's and g60's) but the terminals are in the wrong place, had a read on club polo as someone else had the same trouble

There is likely to be a bosche part number on there too. Use that to search for alternative suppliers.

Annoyingly not, no bosch marking stamp number or anything, just a vw stamp. more than likely is bosch though. worth giving them a call?

They're made by Stribel, not Bosch.
