Standard suspension options
« on: February 03, 2014, 09:44:59 pm »
Right, bought a stock G40 recently. Shocks ride quite well considering age and mileage. Soon enough though they're going to need replacement living in Norfolk!

I spotted that Demon Tweeks list an H&R comfort kit. Has anyone any experience of this?

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/suspension-kits/car/volkswagen/polo-81-94-g40/1991/1-3-supercharged-86c-g40/hr-comfort-suspension-kit-lowers-front-35mm-and-lowers-rear-35mm

I don't want to lower it any more than standard and don't want a harsh ride. Any other options? I don't really want to go down the coilovers route.

I'd recommend koni dampers and stock springs.

the konis aren't shortened so imo ride best with stock springs.  Stiffens up a lot, without being uncomfy.  Not cheap tho!

These are damping adjustable? So could be run "soft". £375 for dampers posted - ballpark figure. You're right!  :o

I just took a set of the konis of mine, but the fronts are fudged.

I still have the springs and rear shocks though, they gave a much better ride then my new kit, was only lowered about 5mm over standard.

You can get konis refurbished.

Other option is just yellow gas shocks.  I got a set delivered for 60quid from german ebay to use with stock springs though were harder than konis and shorter

The other day I took my Koni yellows off the rear and they need a refurb so I popped down to Gsf witch had on the shelf standard rear shocks about £45 for two . So now have cheap shocks the springs say g40 on them so guessing standard . And bumb stops  from pete , the ride is much better than I would of guessed not to soft and handles well I was quite surprised , (this is just for now setup ) cheers Ben ,

ecp can do hnr cup kits for circa 330, they offer a massive discount on them, I enquired a while back.

Hopefully they still do them.
