I seem to remember a magazine article about this car. I will have a dig round to see if I have it.

Just photo's for the minute, I'll scan it in later on  ;)

Loved that car, the article there is the one that convinced me to buy a G40

According to the article the engine was from a VW Cup car with 11K on the clock and the Genesis already had 106K when it was converted. If the 187K is correct for the car then the engine is still lower miles than most.

The clocks in the article look to be showing 121,500ish so it looks like the 187k could be the shells mileage, which would mean the engine is on approx 92k

I removed that engine from the car after I melted a piston(at 18K).
I replaced it with a brand new bottom end which I still own and is awaiting fitment to my 1981 Derby.
I sold the car in March 2000 to a friend who had a written off Mk.2 G40 conversion. I put all his running gear onto the genesis shell. That engine had done 40k when the shell had done 153k. I had heard a rumour that it'd had gone bang again last year.
If I were you, I would check that the fuel pump has been replaced as it was still running the standard SPi pump when I sold it(which caused the demise of the cup car engine). Being young and stupid back then and no access to the internet, I didn't know there were two types of fuel pump ::)

And no, the guy you bought it off didn't build it, I originally did, but it's probably been apart many times since then...

If you look at the part number, SPI ones have a B (if I remember) on the end. G40 ones have no suffix.

Correct!

The paint colour is Indian red pearl(not Indiana red). Can't for the life of me remember what the code is, and I painted the bumpers too ???
Will try and have a look on the Standox mixing scales tomorrow if I get the chance.

Didn't know Indian Red had pearl in it ! It does look good when polished up on a late summer night though.

Indeed it does. It also has what we call in the trade "poor covering power"  ::)

Is that how the base coat looks as you apply it ? Something that you need a couple of coats or a ground coat for ?

If I remember when I painted the bumpers(that was 12 years ago now!) I sprayed on some Rover Nightfire red first that I had left over from another job before the Indian red was sprayed on. It's such a pissy transparent colour that groundcoats help no end :(

Yeah, that Rover Nightfire red is very similar.
