Title: Latest on Vernier Pulleys
Post by: confusionhunter on January 02, 2012, 08:23:50 pm
I fancy one of theses for the turbo. Giving it a new timing belt too....

I know Kent cams do one, Cat cams do one there is a bloke on club polo knoecking them up and the guy on ebay seems to have stopped the polo ones for the minute.

Yoof, were you doing a fresh batch last year?

Which is best value out there? Any one have one kicking around?
Cheers.
Mark.

Yea, I think the issue there is that its exchange and I quite fancy keeping my solid one.

Liam has 3 of ours, all etched, dowelled and finished. I've been trying for about 2 years to get them... I've given up to be honest mate.

Are you sure? I thought they were all lost in the post? and that was ages ago, weren't you going to put another batch together, or have you knocked that on the head?

Anyone have a particular opinion on the Cat cam locking pin idea or feedback on the kent cams one? I like that fact its marked to for degrees advanced....

We had a batch of 10 done (2xAFH) and only 3 ever turned up, in a rusty packet at the back of a warehouse (Interparcel IIRC).

Liam still has the 3, but Charlie has moved machine shops since then, no idea if they still exist...

Ah, I see.... how much can I get one for it I track them down!?  ;) ;D

Aside from that....you think the cat cams locking idea is a gimmick? Was thinking about one of them....

I'd only ever trust OE keyways to be honest.

Catcams is a fair idea, but there used to be a problem with them supplying the key with the pulley.

At least these use the OEM keyway.... its the Maxmax one, guess a solid one isnt going to offer an advantage over on of these....

Ive also emailed cat cams to find out what the deal is withe the woodruff key.....

MaxRPM (formerly GLaderSeite.de) has just posted this on it's faceachebook page:

http://www.maxrpm.de/Verstellbares-Nockenwellenrad-fuer-VW-Polo-G40

I'd say it's clearly made from a standard pulley so I'd guess it has the standard fixed key.

These will come in about £110 delivered.

Rich- Under inspection 4 out of 5 have sustained damage, which I'm not happy with selling. So this whole batch will be going back. Will keep everyone updated, apologies it will take longer but I'm not selling people damaged parts.

Cheers

Pete

Thought I'd resurrect this thread.

What is the latest on Vernier Pulleys

Where do people get them from?
What ones are decent?
Can PPP still get / make them?

And what benefit have people had from running one.

I now have my Lathe in my garage but its 3phase.
I have an inverter to wire up for it.
Once done I intend to try doing one of these.
It has been on my mind for a while given that over time
I've seen problems with them especially the Keyway bit.
I have several standard pulleys so should be able to work one out
It'll be a bit yet though but I will post the outcome.
Glad the maxmax one shows good pictures of both faces.

Fred.
