Gripper Plate Diff - for 085 ATV Box
« on: October 20, 2013, 07:11:51 pm »
Gripper 085 Plate LSD for sale, will be stripped and cleaned prior to being sold (broke 3rd in the last box it was in)

Now surplus to requirements, I've never had a problem with the diff - all shims/bolts/bearings still available from Gripper so can be serviced for many years to come.

Pre-load currently 90lbft, I will check this prior to posting. Final drive will be included if in good condition.

£450 + delivery to mainland UK, collection Rugby Warwickshire.

Hi Yoof
How does this compare with a Quaife?
Thanks Rich

For ultimate grip, the plate diff (gripper) is better.

For road manners the Quailfe is better, it doesn't clunk like the gripper, but it's not adjustable.

The plate diff on the road with circa 200bhp means you need to be a comitted driver- roundabouts in 3rd are awesome, and the level of corner speed you can carry with the throttle in is alarming! However the steering gets heavier and I would reccomend a subframe with them (and uprated driveshaft).

Gripper best for traction, quiff better to live with on a road based car.

I also have an uprated driveshaft, and obviously subframes if you need.

Cheers

Pete

Oh no the slippery slope, already planning on a sub-frame in the future.... And now drive shafts.....
Prob best with a Quaife here, planning on a 150-160 bhp Polo with neat handling but it is my main car (only car, supported with a van and bikes!) thanks

Durable - I've been pumping 200bhp+ through it for a good few years, as has Hayesey and Robin. It uses standard VW diff bearings, and all the clutch pack plates are still available from Gripper. I think they charged Robin £80+ VAT for a full rebuild recently.

Final drive is an ATV one- I'd be tempted to keep an ATV box as the GT ratios mean you're just wheel spinning 1st - 3rd if you've got alot of power.
