what would win?
« on: February 15, 2010, 07:51:01 pm »
right one of my mates is puting a std MI into his 205 and i was wandering if a 150hp G is capable of giving it a run for its money?
i know the MI will beat it top end but how would it hold up to about 110mph?
cheers
mark

Quote i found online:

"So you've seen an Mi16 powered 205 or 309 GTi and want one yourself.

Good decision, but what exactly is involved? How difficult is the conversion and how long will it take?

Firstly, this is what you can expect:
- Supercar Performance!
- 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds, or under 5 with a modified engine
- 150 mph"

Another car that is on my 'would love to own list' but not the 205, always fancied a 309 GTi in black.

They probably handle an awful lot better than a Polo too.

Do not really know much about the car but the standard 1.9 GTI 205 is quite nippy, had a play with one from junc 10 of the M40 all the way down to Brakely (passing Silverstone on the A43) It was good fun actually and a nice lad driving it. I got past him every time but there was not that much difference in acceleration, i mean none of this put your foot down and good bye, more like sh*t that’s quite i really have to try here.

Mine at the time was 140bhp so that is the difference with a std 1.9 GTI no idea about this MI business.

Oh and the 205 lost me after every roundabout hence having to catch up every time lol, looked like it stuck to the road well.

Yes 8)

We always got the raw deal on models in the UK. These would have been a hoot to give some stick...

The red 405 MI16 my dad used to own breifly was rapid for an NA saloon :o  Must be the alloy blocks which make them feel to fast.

Years ago a mate had a 8v 1.9 GTi 205, it was probably a little quicker overall, but not too much in it. He shit out when I had the R1 conversion with a 65mm pulley and chip, and sold it before I had run the charger in!

Would just like to say I have raced a 205 gti stripped out that had a mi16 in it it was running itb's but hadn't been tuned up for them he said it was running 170bhp and yes it was quicker than my 150bhp g although second time I raced we had a standing start from the lights he blew first gear out of his bellhousing oil every where and then I beat him ;D

i know my car wont take it off the line cos it just spins 1 & 2.
4 of my mates are sick of the polo beating there cars so they have all been trying to tune there engines to try better the polo. i might get a good race this summer. there is 2 RS turbos S1 & S2, MK1 xr2, 205 MI and a std 205 1.9, there is an E30 bm but that is slow.

what would win? g40 lower speeds up to 100mph mi16 at high speeds and on cornors and if like my mate who knows how to use the lift off over steer of the 205 to his advantage.

i have seen some very fast driving up and down the cheddar gorge from my mate in his mi16 but i can still stay stuck to his arse in my G and its not running correct and has bollocks suspension and brakes.

My mate who came up to the RR day has a mi16'd 205 and he could barely find the words to describe how much faster my G is once on the move. Heard more swear words out of him that day than I say in a year!

Off the line? Pretty close, those 205's do grip well, I don't really do the full bore starts so hard to compare I guess.

Straight line performance between a stock G40 and a stock 1.9 Gti is almost identical. The Gti gets to 60 quicker but that's only because of gear ratios; the 0 to 70 time is the same.
