Off to the club polo track day at the end of the month, I was looking at a set of Ra's that have track slicks on (dunlop slicks off ford formula) doesnt mean much to me, but thought i would do the track day on the and then swap out for something less exotic and more road friendly afterwards.
Now the track rules state you cant run slicks without rollover protection. Does a roof count or will it have to be a roll cage?
-
Cage for full slicks. ;D
-
Cheers, I will get some yokos thrown on instead. Currently £60 a corner on black circles
-
If it's just for trackdays, I'd be tempted to find a used set of cut slicks (A048/R888/V70 etc) which are road legal, and you will get a decent grip level and durability from.
Swap em at the track, job's a good un.

wont be a regular on the track so cant justify a second set of wheels at this stage.
What would be a good 13" tyre size (175/60 on bbs ra alloys) for a bit of track but mainly small windy roads and compound?
-
A539 was always the default choice, used in 750 stock hatch for many years too.
I'm not sure about availability of them now...

Still available here

Currently running them A539 but not a massive fan. Much prefer too T1R's. Maybe better on the track though.
Got a used set of R888 and they are very good. Only 0.3 behind my slick times at pod.

I bought my A539s from EARS tyres online. They were the cheapest I could find at the time.
They also have decent prices on A048 tyres too in a choice of medium and soft if you decide to go down that route.
While I'm here...I was planning on using A048 mediums at the front and A539 on the rear at the Club Polo track day. Has anyone run a similar setup and found issues with rear end grip?

Try www.clickontyres.co.uk
I've used them for all my tyres on all cars, can source most stuff if they don't have it in and prices are cheap, great guys and real quick fitting
-
I wouldn't use A048s on the road. They just wear out in no time (even the medium compound ones, expect about 5k out of them) and they are bloody scary in heavy rain on the motorway. It'd be cheaper to get a 2nd set of wheels to keep them on (which is what I do). I like A539s but have a set of yoko s-drive tyres that I use on the road.
-
Can you get the S-drives in stock G40 sizes though Hayes? I've run them and C-drives on various other cars and liked them.
I like A539s for Polos, but they only perform in the wet if you can get them warm - which is fine on track, not so much on the road.

no, good point! the ones I have are 195/45/15. Then my a048s are 185/55/14.
