Title: G40 Ecu fuelling issue, replacing diode guide?
Post by: DKnight on April 19, 2012, 12:17:24 pm
hello

well many moons ago when i first got my G40 i had an issue where the fuel pump was not functioning, it turned out if you bridge the fuel relay it blows a diode in the ECU, well it looks like someone had done this on my G40 so someone off here had located which diode needed replacing on the ecu board.

Try as i might to locate the imagery i have failed, does anyone still have it or know?

thanks!

I had a silimlar issue, But it wasnt a diode, Unplugging your hall sender can cause the fuel pump not to prime iirc. I would try this, It worked for me.

cheers for the link, im not trying to problem solve im just trying to find the information it is good to have to hand as it is a common problem, and would not mind documenting it.

I take it there's no indication on the board itself? No clear 'smoke escaped' marks on either side, de-laminated tracks or slightly melted looking diodes around the ECU pin for fuel pump relay?

Isn't it one of the transistors that goes?

again i have not got a faulty ecu i am just trying to find the information, it is a diode i still have the diodes now in a draw at work!

I did it on an ecu in the past and there was a link/post somewhere showing which it was, its some information which i really do not want to disappear! i fixed my ecu for about 18p lol

Here's the transistor info I was thinking about:

yeah i think that is different, these are the diodes i have that i used, i think? it is that long ago but i do not know why i would even own these diodes for anything else!

if i get time i will pop my ecu open and have a look

those are resistors dude, not diodes :)

It was me that worked out which bit needed changing in the ECU (I work as an electronic engineer). The link above is definately what you want. A transistor is like an electronic version of a relay. It's used to convert the low current signal from the microprocessor in the ECU to a higher current signal that can drive the coil in the fuel pump relay.

excellent, memory now refreshed, it would be good to get some images and a guide for this as i see it all the time, if i can be bothered i will throw it together some time
