Saw this for sale a few weeks ago, have always liked Windsor blue G40s, and there's not many about, so decided to buy it :)

Currently a 1341cc Turbo- but those bits will make way for a 1272cc G40 fairly stock(ish), back to 13" BBS and generally a good clean up, service, and sort out a few bits, should mkae a great weekend motor.
-
Such a nice colour, I can definately see why you've bought it! Sounds like more spares for the Yoof hoard too haha
-
Awesome! Such a good colour!
-
awesome colour, where was it for sale?
-
To hear of a project of a Polo going back to a G-Lader and 1272 fills me full of joy. Viva la G-Lader
-
awesome colour, where was it for sale?
Club Polo a few weeks back.
Juston- yeah I like the G40 lader alot, it's just not capable of the power for what I wanted the red one to do, this is a more relaxed 130-140bhp target, with a decent remap and a few choice mods.
Also has split fold rear seats, in Le Mans trim 8)
-
interior shots!
-
Wow makes me wish mine was all painted!
Sounds like your aiming to have a daily the same as mine :) will be keeping an eye on this one
-
Keeping most of the 1341 for spares for your red car Peter?
Love the colour, as you say, not many about!
-
Nah, I've got another spare bottom end for the red one, this bottom end is up for sale (see parts for sale section).
A few bits will find their way into friends trackday projects, and the rest is for me to have a normal rare(ish) G40 on the road ;D
-
I noticed the parts for sale section after posting actually, i'll keep an eye on that head after MOT next month, i need more umph ::)
-
Looks pretty good that does yoof
I proper like that colour, sounds good that
Your returning it to a proper g40, looking forward
To seeing some more photos of this beast
-
This looks like your G

Even the number plate matches! ;D
-
ooohh it's that G40.. sick ass i always thought it was purple from the over chaps photos.
what sort of engine setup is this running?
-
Will you be keeping the PPS subframe in it Pete ? LOL.
-
Funny you mention that...
The race spec spesh gearbox mount supplied with it drops the engine at the back so much that the gear linkage operates in a different plane to the gear selector rod on the gearbox itself. Makes for a lovely shift! ::)
-
Will you be keeping the PPS subframe in it Pete ? LOL.
LOL, nah, already sold that POS. The size of the holes at the front are quality, will get a pic next to one of ours.
Will put some ARB Blocks and new bushes on, I might put a stage 2 on it too, depends on time etc.
Engine is almost out of it now, got quite a few standard bits to go back on, but need a few biggies. Hoping to have it done over winter at a fairly relaxed pace, still got the red one to fix too!
-
The PPS subframe front bolt holes is probably about as bad as the original idea not having an anti-roll bar. The Germans laughed at it when they saw it...
-
The bolt holes on mine took the 10mm bolts I fitted quite snugly, so I didn't have any issues with them.
-
Have been busy buying a house recently, so have been trying to thin down my stock of various Polo related parts, spent a little time on the G40 last week, fitting nylon TCA bushes, ARB Blocks, and one of our stage 2 frames (installation guide to follow).
Will write up a guide to stage 2 fitting, in the meantime I leave you with pictures of what was on it, and what’s on it now...
What came off, quite frankly dangerous- new owner is welding fresh metal in on these thank god:

And its replacement, much better:
Took a few hours to fit (although I'v done a few now) and no drilling of any holes required, which means the repair work on the chassis was probably done for strength, not post accident damage, but I'll never know. All good now and ready for lots of road miles.
Whilst I had the TCAs out I decided to regrease and clean them, fairly simple job and should mean they last a little longer:
Take one crud filled TCA:
Clean and apply moly-coat grease:
Refit cleaned boot and clips:
Can see some of the chassis work here:
Welding looks acceptable, been stone chipped in the past so no signs of rusting, I'm going to spray it and leave, I'm happy with chassis strength now there's a decent subframe fitted.
Got some pistons on their way from Terry, so will be building a stock (ish) 1272cc motor for it, with a G40 lader on 65mm pulley once Pete's built it back up, and an ATV box, should be restored to its former glory and hopefully 130bhp or so.
Cheers
Pete
-
Nice motor, nice job on the work
off the top of my head the only guy I knew who owned a L reg Windsor blue back in the days was a guy call shailan .
-
Few more bits arrived for this now:
1272cc PY lump with a new CG Clutch (Thanks Gav!)
65mm Pulley
Stock Lader
ATV Gearbox
So should be able to restore it to its former glory (with a little better chassis and a touch more power)
Jobs to do:
Rebuild Supercharger over Christmas with Mr Mirfin
Swap ARB to one with decent threads (Cheers Sam)
New Cambelt, Waterpump and gasket set for the engine
Fit 13” Refurbished BBS with A539
Swap front bumper to stock one
Weld new flexi onto exhaust
Build engine up with fresh bits and painted up
Custom PPP map
Bits to source:
Stock Airbox – anyone got one?
-
Think i've got a standard air box lying round somewhere, its been "de-restricted" where the charger pipe connects, all in good nick as far as i can remember.
josh
-
Cheers Josh- can you PM me some payment details mate.
Been cracking on with this recentley, cleaning, painting, refurbishing bits and collecting parts, waiting for a top end gasket set to arrive, engine should be nice and fresh with a new cambelt and gaskets etc.
So, a few pics:

looking good

I don't suppose you would be kind enough to link me to the paint you are using?
the silver parts have come out very nice indeed!
thanks :)
-
Sweeeeet!
-
Paint is silver engine enamel- eBay is a good bet.
Been chipping away the last few evenings getting bits done and the engine dressed- few more bits to do, but not far off putting it back in the car now.

Looks really good that yoof, really like how thats turned out I will deffo be cracking on with mine
Soon, given me some incentive that,

Got new discs & pads now, along with a G40 airbox, so the list of parts to buy is small now.
Loom was next for some attention, a previous owner had done some interesting 'repairs' - no wonder it had a few running issues.
Loom started like this:
Removed the insulation tape from it ::) :
That revealed some gems:
Luckily work have the correct connectors, so a few crimps later:
Bit of soldering:
Some heatshrink:
Job jobbed:
Had to do that on a few connectors- but loom is good now, all connectors cleaned too.
Wrapped in pukka loom tape and ready to go back in the car:

Just a side note- this car will be for sale once it's had an MOT, I've just bought a house, and don't have room for 5 cars :'(
If you're interested PM me- given the amount of new/refurbished parts I'd like £3k ono, having said that the shell does need a little paint, so feel free to offer a sensible priced based on this.
Cheers

Looking good!
The previous repair work on the loom is so pikey!

Ahh don't say that looking to sell the BM in the next couple of months and was wondering if I should get something it in its place or just use the wife's Suzuki Alto :-D Or actually just use Mine a bit more! :-D
-
Built to be a daily mate, so a nice mix of stock/uprated parts.
Engine should be ~130bhp with a remap and 65mm pulley, fresh clutch, cambelt, etc etc.
Suspension is Koni and in good nick, with a stage 2 frame it's about ideal for the road (175/60 A539 too)
All the right bits ;D
-
Also you can't get G40s in America- so best drive whilst you can!
-
Back on its proper wheels now :)

-
Over christmas started stripping supercharger at Pete's gaff, he's now finished it off so is fully rebuilt all new seals and bearings (unlike Jabba)
Pot of bits:
Finished article, same paint as the rocker cover, gearbox, and inlet - should hopefully look nice and clean in the engine bay :)
Cheers Pete!
-
Lader out of its bubble wrap now, will get engine ready to be stuck in this weekend. Got to replace the front struts as the wheelbearing is knackered one side and its faster to swap the strut out for a good un.

looks sweet good work, who rebuilt the charger?
-
PeteG40 on here
-
That looks spot on!! this is going to be lovely when finished
-
Where did you get the connectors and the white rubber grommet for the blue temp connector? are they used on later polo's?
-
PeteG40 on here, had about 5 laders done by him (mine and customers) and every one has been spot on- he's cheap too!
-
That's good to no I think mine needs doing got abit of oil coming out of the thottle body.
How much does he charge thanks
-

Workshop at work- you can buy them from RS Components Farnell etc.
Swapped the oil feeds for some fresh ones I had, and also put the alternator and lader on to check everything fitted since its been painted, tapped the hole out an all the mounts now too, so everything runs in as it should.
Hopefully a mate can bring his crane round tomorrow and I'll drop it in :)

Happy with how it looks, another couple of days and it should be running and ready for MOT ;D Then ready for sale :(
-
Please paint that throttle body with the same silver enamel as the rest.
-
Nah, they look crap if you only paint the top part, and are a pain to re-assemble properly without them sticking.
-
Looking wicked that mate. Spot on. Bet you want to keep it really... ;D
-
Yeah I really do, hence the extras like subframe - but needs must! Mrs has a car and this is car no 4 for me, our new gaff can't accommodate all of them, so this will have to go :(
-
More bis done, despite the snow today, hopefully should have the last few parts arrive this week, and be ready for MOT soon.
Struts that came with the car had knackered wheel bearings, so put on a good set after putting the konis (adjustable) and springs on, and a lick of paint:

Grown quite attached to this now :(
-
I'm not surprised. Lovely example!
-
Did you change the charger outlet boost pipe to the original intercooler? if so what did you use?
Wouldn't mind seeing this in the flesh before you sell :) though i think you should keep it
-

Sure whoever buys it will bring it to some shows :)
I've not found a charger to IC pipe yet (got a wanted ad up) if no one has one I'll replace it with a length of silicone
Cheers for the kind words!
Pete
-
I hope so, your asking price is a bargain too!
Well, i tried a length of silicone hose and because its at a slight angle and it kinks the pipe. so after some searching i found one of the german sites (bar tek) i think do the ribbed one but its 80 euros. after more searching i found a length of silicone ribbed hose that looks fairly similar to original but was £50
with the original ones getting pretty old now they are perished from expanding contracting, hot/cold and constant oil contaminants. mines well worn out. give me a shout if you manage to find any decent ones that fit and aren't really expensive
also thanks for the info on the place that sells the little connectors :)
Taylor
-
I used silicone in the end Taylor, fits well and means all the boost pipes are new and in silicone hose now, so no rubber to perish.
Almost ready to fire:

fancy a swap for my G and money your way? :D

Now running, tappets need to fill back with oil (take a few hundred miles) but all sounds sweet.
Needs a good clean now, then ready for it's new owner :(
For sale thread: http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,9654.0.html
Taylor- I've no room mate, otherwise I'd keep this!
-
Excellent Work Pete!
Nice to see you caring for a G40 and steering it back onto the OE path!
How much was the Alternator wiring loom out of interest? (just about all my small block vw's need one of these!).
