Title: Engine Mounting
Post by: pettsy on July 08, 2009, 07:22:16 pm
I've currently got the engine out of my G pending a rebuild,so thought i'd give the bay a tidy up. While i have it stripped, is there any point welding the seams on the gearbox mount?

Am sure there are some images on this site of the spots coming away at that point?  I would if your doing the rest of the stuff.

Yeah, well worth doing IMO.
Basically, stitch weld where the bracket is spot welded to the chassis leg. It is important to get decent welds around that diagonal stiffener/gusset.
Also weld the chassis leg to bulkhead areas. A piece of sheet metal forming a gusset is probably the neatest and strongest solution.
Further stitch welding can be done around the top of the turrets and along the inner wing to chassis seams, but unless you are gonna do lots of track work or have silly power it's a little uneccessary.

Yeah as Breadman has said i think its well worth it too. I have welded up all of those gearbox mount seams on mine!
