Title: G40 idling problems
Post by: sohailG40 on October 25, 2008, 09:07:11 pm
Right where do i start.

Whilst driving along my G40 decided to cut out on me, it struggled to restart but finally when it did she wouldnt hold idle.

After giving her another attempt she adled for around 30seconds and decided to cut out again.

I am stumped & don't know what to do as the G40 was running fine without skipping a beat.

Where do i start & what do i check?

Has anyone suffered the same symptoms?

Thanks in advance.

First things first, are you getting fuel pressure?

Then I'd start checking ignition components; starting with earth straps, leads, plugs, distributor, coil, and of course all associated connectors etc

Then move onto idle adjustment settings, though if its suddenly stopped working then its more likely to be a component failure so there'll be no need to check anything in this area.

Once started does or can the engine rev at all?

Thanks for your reply.

Once the car starts up with the throtle open she revs fine, although when you release the throtle it will cut out and wont hold idle.

check the alternator voltage too - if its low if might cause issues and obviously if booted will generate more leccy.

kinda depends how many people turn up really.  I'd say mid afternoon, maybe 3pm?  If loads of turn up though it could go on past 5pm.

mine was kinda running like yours was. I checked the Co2 pot, adjusted it and then gave the screw on the t/b a slight tweek and it seemed to solve the problem. I'll check my fuel lines now.

yeh my car seems to run fine now no more ilde problems
wot i do tend to get is when you first start up in the cold moring the car will feel weird for 30 seconds or so but after that its fine
i think that it could be like a auto choke
