The rise of the PC brigade seems to have seen the death of the nickname. "I felt demeaned"
" I felt de-valued", "I was a victim" goes the mantra (although the 400 was quite smart).
Over the years though we've probably heard quite a few worthwhile ones from the witty to the downright abusive which used to be part of life's great tapestry. We've all heard of Teflon the non stick welder for instance but what about "Blisters". Blisters always appeared after hard work was over. "Nimrod" was always looking for a sub (subsidy/loan). "Hippo"was 100 kilos and black. "Ripcord" had dwarfism and a hunched back and "Superboot" who suffered from Polio as a child and had one leg dramatically shorter than the other, had a platform soled toe-tector long before the advent of the platform shoe. "Tunc"is self explanatory and the arcane "Peggy"a poor bastard who had no bladder control and had to resort to a clothes peg.
None of these guys took any exception to what they were called, in fact,it seemed to give a boost to their personna. So what's it like today? Anything like that out there or are we all walking the line?
