Oil pressure at 6000RPM
« on: July 02, 2009, 08:08:54 pm »
Thinking about a stand alone charger supply but the pressure reg. road has it's attractions. What oil pressure does a G engine in good nick put out at top end revs?

If y. don't hv original oil lines than y'll hv more than 3 bar nd this is much to high cos your oil berrings on main axle in charger will slip down cos of presure. (hd this problem 3x)

If y. hv standard oil lines there is no presure (almost) at all - oil is just leaking nd that is enough for axle lubrication.

i had 6bar at 6-8000rpm.  On a standalone and OE oil supply.

That sounds much more like it. Many thanks. I'd been thinking about an in-line diesel pump for my stand -alone which would at least offer a steady pressure. Trouble was it started foaming the oil; probably the 1ltr tank I have being too small. I've now got a low pressure pump with a high flow which should do the business.

I seem to remember on the psd stand alone it was a facet pump running a constant 0.5bar.  Still managed to blow both outlet bearing seal springs under heavy use, though it would have been seals but PSD glued the seals in, my charger was getting long in the tooth though after far too many rebuilds.  My engine could rev too quickly upto 8k for the charger, which the charger didn't like too much.

On a normal engine, a stand alone oil system is worth its weight in gold i reckon.

It's all pretty modest stuff under the bonnet mod- wise for me. Just looking for long term reliability.
