« on: November 29, 2011, 07:10:44 am »
What's the rules for mot does a road car have to have a spare wheel well or is it just if it's got one it has to have a spare wheel?
Can it be completely removed along with the spare wheel and still pass mot ??

doesn't need one and you wont fail if there is one and it's knackered either.  The tester should just tell you if it is knackered but in my experience they don't even look at it.  MOT manual says:

Quote
This inspection applies to

Tyres fitted to the road wheels only.  The vehicle presenter should be informed when it is noticed that there is a defective tyre on a spare wheel.

just re-read this and realised you are actually asking if the car has to have a spare wheel WELL

no it doesn't nothing to do with the MOT test.  However if you do plate it over, you should really seam weld it as it'll class as a "repair" within a certain distance of a major suspension pickup point.

Although you can get around it by fixing it strongly and applying a lot of underseal!  They'll not be able to tell if it's seam welded or not ;)

Thanks for the replys, I'm going to remove it as I'm going to put some plu and carpet in the back so didnt see the point of carding extra weight for a spare I can't get to!
