Title: steering rack..
Post by: supercharged spaniel on August 26, 2009, 09:25:56 am
had my car on stands putting a new clutch cable on and noticed when the wheels were tuned to one sde the boot on the steering rack is completly split and hanging..how big a problem is this?  when lowered down looking in the bay you cant see it but only when turned the way that extends this boot.  how much is a steering rack and can it be fitted without removing engine?  i guess it can through the holes in the inner wings.  i might be fine with a split boot for now just looking for info as ive had very little to do with the rack.

you'll get an advisory on an MOT for a split steering gaitor.  I would have thought they'd be available to buy on their own without replacing the whole rack?  Providing the steering rack is ok and that the grease hasn't leaked out and/or dirt got into it.
